For centuries, botanical essential oils - highly concentrated aromatic oils found in herbs, flowers and trees - have been used to annoint the body, ease the sting of a wound, assure a sound sleep, or turn a simple bath into a rejuvenating or relaxing experience. These feather-light, non-greasy oils can be dissolved in alcohol or mixed with other pure vegetable oils to become a unique part of our personal cure regimen.

From religious ceremonies to beauty rituals, essential oils were an integral part of everyday life for our ancestors. The medieval Persian physician Avicenna developed the distillation techniques for extracting these delicate, readily evaporating oils from plants.

Body Care

Give your favorite unscented lotions, bath oils, creams and hair care products an exotic lift by mixing in a touch of essential oil. Or give your hair and scalp a refreshing conditioning treatment by placing a few drops of rosemary or lavender oil directly on your natural bristle hairbrush (which also conditions and protects the bristles).


Create a festive mood around the holidays or a scented mood for spring by "decorating" your home with the fragrance of essential oils. Potpourri, incense, candles and herbal fragrance pillows make unique personalized gifys. Include a small bottle of essential oils with your potpourri gift, so the recipient can refresh the mixture throughout the year.

Insect Repellant

Enjoy that Sunday picnic or evening outdoor concern without using harsh chemical sprays. A number of oils, such as citroella, have long been valued for their natural insect-repelling properties. Just blend a few drops of essential oil into an unscented vegetable oil and rub on your skin or on your clothes.

  • 3 tbls sea salt
  • 2 tbls sodium bicarbonate (baking soda)
  • 1 tbls borax
  • 6 drops tangerine
  • 5 drops lemon
  • 7 drops lavender
  • 2 drops chamomille
